| The Original 9
When you hear the term, The Original Nine, you might think of a rambling gang of cowboys in a Saturday afternoon western movie or a group of wild motorcycle riders. In fact, it applies to neither. The term is used in Savannah to describe a group of nine courageous young men who overstepped strong racial boundaries to become the first black Savannah Police Officers. When these men signed on as police officers their only thought was providing an income for their family. Little did any realize that sixty-three years later they would be imbedded in Savannah history. |
| Operation Identification
Operation Identification (Operation ID) is a citizen’s burglary prevention program for use in homes and businesses. The Operation ID program involves marking property with an identifying number as a means of discouraging burglary and theft. It also provides police with a way to identify property should it be stolen and recovered. In communities where it has been properly implemented, Operation ID has shown dramatic results in burglary reduction.

| Pay Traffic Citations On-Line!
You can now pay traffic citations on-line to the Recorder's Court of Chatham County. Go to www.savannahga.gov and follow the instructions. The process is easy and allows payment of most traffic violations filed with the Court. However, some traffic violations or the status of some citations (e.g., DUI and No Insurance or Day of Court, Contempt of Court, and Delinquent) may not allow a payment to be processed through the online system. You will need the citation number, name of the defendant, and a Visa or MasterCard for your online payment transaction.

| Guns Recovered Report
Each week, SCMPD officers recover and seize numerous guns from our community. Every gun off the street, is a gun we keep away from criminals, and keep out of the hands of our children. Metro Police can only be as effective as our community in stemming the tide of gun-use in crimes in our area. Report illegal guns! Call CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 to report illegal guns. You can remain anonymous and you may qualify for a cash award. Click on the "CrimeStoppers" logo below to make a report anonymously through the web.
Click on the "Recovered Gun Report" to the left to find out about the guns taken off the street this week ... and who police arrested for having an illegal gun in our community.
