Metro Police Quickly Arrest Armed Burglary Suspect
SAVANNAH, GA (November 17, 2009): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) made a quick arrest of two suspects in a burglary in progress, last night. Just after 6:00 p.m., Metro Police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Victory Dr. by a caller that advised 911 operators that he saw burglars in his home. The homeowner exited the home and called police.
Responding patrol officers and K-9 officers quickly arrived and set up a perimeter. K-9 and patrol officers entered the residence through a rear door that had been pried open and conducted a sweep of the lower level of the residence. The officers located an adult, a juvenile and a weapon inside the residence.
Both suspects were taken into custody. Police arrested Ricky Yuran SMITH, 17, of Savannah. Both subjects were charged with Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by a Minor and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. SMITH was transported and booked into the Chatham County Detention Center, and the juvenile was transported and booked into RYDC.
