SAVANNAH, GA (December 17, 2009): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) seeks Leon Elmore for his role in allegedly defrauding an 84-year old woman of more than $18,000.
Elmore, 51; Zachery S. Myers, 45, and two other suspects are part of a group who defrauded the elderly woman out of her life savings.
Myers was taken into custody November 30 and has been held at the Chatham County Jail since his arraignment Dec. 1.
One of the suspects allegedly told the woman he was a police officer investigating fraud on her bank account. The man took the woman to two bank branches and withdrew approximately $18,000 in less than 45 minutes.
The man accompanied the woman to two Bank of America branch offices, November 17. The first $9000 withdrawal was made at 10:06 a.m. at the Waters Ave branch. The man then took the elderly woman to the Mall Blvd. branch at 10:42 a.m. and withdrew an additional $9000. The suspects absconded with $18,000 in cash. Another man believed to be part of the scheme defrauded the woman of an additional $1000 on Nov 13.
Anyone who saw the elderly woman and a man in the bank on November 13 or 17 or knows the whereabouts of Elmore or his accomplices are asked to contact Financial Crimes Detective Polite at (912) 651-6735 or contact Crime Stoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) and in the body type “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash award.
